Which is better among White rice & Brown rice
Few other grains have matched the versatility of Rice, as it is the staple food of a majority of the population of the world. It is cultivated in almost all parts of the world. Although it comes in many shapes, the popular ones are Brown rice and White rice. There is only a basic difference between these two. All white rice is a brown rice first. When the inedible outer hull of the brown rice is removed, you get pure white rice.
Among these two, white rice is the one which is widely consumed; but many people acknowledge that the brown rice type is a healthier option than white rice. In general, every type of rice contains carbohydrates in it, along with a few proteins. But still, why brown rice is considered a healthier option is explained below.
Brown rice is a whole grain as it has all parts intact in it. The nutritious germ, the fibrous bran, and the carbs-rich endosperm. But in the white rice, the bran and germ are removed. Thus, naturally, the nutrition content of Brown rice will be more. There is a higher amount of Vitamins, Minerals, and Fibre in it.
Foods made from brown rice powder can help in reducing cholesterol, they can also help to low the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type-2 Diabetes. But there are risks too. It can have a higher amount of the toxic chemical, Arsenic. Long-term consumption can actually harm you. So the best option is to have it in moderation.
White rice to has its own advantages. For example, you can digest white rice very easily as compared to many other foodstuffs. Not to forget, you don’t have to worry about any anti-nutrients in it like the Phytic Acid and Arsenic. If we take a closer look at the nutrition value, there will not be much difference between these two types.
Because a majority of white rice is ‘enriched’ before it is sold and it gains a good amount of its nutrients which it had lost. Thus, White or Brown, both have their advantages and disadvantages. It is up to you to determine the better one and enjoy its benefits.
